AMBASSADOR INFO

Role of an Ambassador:
Primary Responsibilities

  • Introduce yourself to your church family as a resource person who can answer questions about the foster care system and local foster care ministry. Start with meeting with your pastor to give him/her feedback about the Ambassador Training. Also consider placing an announcement in your bulletin or church newsletter, letting people know they can contact you for information about the foster care system and ways to serve children in foster care.
  • Make yourself visible and available so you can answer questions about kids in foster care (wear your “Ask Me” button!).
  • Promote the Foster Care Info Fair at your church (scroll down for ideas).
  • Identify & connect with foster parents and adoptive parents in your church;  learn about their needs, and discover how your church can provide support.
  • Stay up to date about current foster care related issues and look for ways to communicate them to your congregation (newsletters, church bulletins, emails, etc.)
  • Pray for LA's foster children and local ministry efforts.

ADDITIONAL POSSIBLE ACTION STEPS...

  • Encourage people to be a one-on-one Sunday School Buddy for a child in foster care in your church
  • Host an orientation at your church campus for a foster family agency
  • Start a prayer meeting focused on the needs of LA’s children in foster care
  • Publish foster care related news articles or opportunities to serve in the church bulletin
  • Partner with a local organization to teach life skills classes to teens in foster care
  • Host a movie night, beach day or park BBQ for a local mentoring ministry
  • Start a “foster closet” at your church to collect goods for children and families
  • Start a Support Team at your church (see Support Teams page )
  • Offer regular babysitting for local foster parents to enjoy a "date night"
  • Start a meal calendar for foster/adoptive families in your church
  • Ask a local foster ministry leader to come speak at your church service or small group to raise awareness for the needs of foster youth in your area (see Speakers’ Bureau)
  • Add foster care ministry and adoption books to your church library or resource center
